Giacomo Piussi - Perfect Day

During the last two years we met new artists and their works that we will present in our next exhibitions. It starts with Giacomo Piussi, born in 1967 in Udino. Immedeately Udino reminds us of Raffaelo, who worked for the Duke of Montefaltro since he was 8 years old, before he left Urbino to compete with Michelangelo and Leonardo. The late phase of Italian Renaissance comes to mind, as a desire to encompass everyday life in the best possible artistic way. Until today the Palazzo of the Duke of Urbino is an example of aristic life reflected in its architecture, tecnical equippment, design of the rooms to the famous studiolo, where the duke was supposed to think about life of his time. Another example  encourages the observer to think in different levels is Raffaelo's Sixtine Madonna, a most vivid description of every day life in the holy family. As the painting is hung up high above, two nasty angels are the first image that comes to your view and make you smile. The playful painterly ruse works until today, not everybody knows the Madonna, but we all know the impudent angels.

If we look at the late Renaissance as a forerunner of the Gesamtkunstwerk, Giacomo Piussi aims to create this spirit in everybody's home, at a quasi democratic level, which as well has humanism at its foundation. He creates sculptures and basreliefs, puts these next to drawings and paintings and than connects these works by wall paintings. A whole universe gets visible, demonstrating that if we use our brains playfully, there are still more ideas in the air, that could enlighten us.   

It  certainly is by much more modest means, that Piussi creates these interiors. But the more amazing is its intellectual power. While in Montefalco's studiolo the most modern thoughts are hidden from everybody's eyes, modern art is there for everbody to refelct the themes of the 21rst century. In a country like Italy, the knowledge about art is aboundant and therefor often taken for granted. But it is as well evident to everybody, that since Renaissance times the image of a human figure has eternal traits that you can still recognize in the streets. Or in the new workss by Piussi.
