John Martin, Australian artist, was born in Sydney in 1942.
He studied at the National Art School in Sydney between 1960 and 1962.
Since his first one-man exhibition in Sydney in 1971,
he has had 30 solo exhibitions in Australia.
He has also participated , by invitation, in many national and international group exhibitions.
He presently lives and works in Allandale, Australia & Berlin, Germany
Selected awards he has recieved include:
1971 - Artist-in-Residence, Sydney University,
1987 - Artist-in-Residence, Wollongong University
1989 - University of Technology Collegium Award
1995 - The Prime Prize, 1995
Of late, John Martin, an organic but resolutely formalistic abstractionist, has been formidable and monumental, undeviating and restless, but now some caprice, whimsy and casual touches are undermining his analysis of planes and volumes. The touch in these refreshing works is sometimes tender and fragile; intriguing new aspects of his work have been revealed."
