Julian Schnabel came to prominence in the eighties as a leading figure in what came to be known as
"neo-expressionism". He combined graphic painting with extraordinary materials which he nailed, glued or
srewed onto his works. Canvas glued with pounded dishware, lorry covers or cow furs became his
trade mark. Along with the attention Schnabel garnered for his painting came a hype and controversial stardom
never before seen in the art world. Schnabel advanced to the most expensive painter in his generation. His work
was displayed all over the world. Today his works are displayed in the permanent exhibitions of the Museum of
Modern Art in New York, the Metropolitan Museum, the Centre Pompidou and all the famous museums of the world.
